Ramon Magsaysay award winner Shanta Sinha has been appointed chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. She has been involved in programmes for elimination of child labour through universalisation of elementary education in Andhra Pradesh. Her present focus is on the girl child and children engaged as bonded labourers, in partnership with government teachers, women's groups, youth associations, local bodies and non-governmental organisations.
